Well...here goes! I have been reading a blog lately of an Air Force mother named Hallie and it got me thinking that I would like to try blogging. I am 21 years old and I have a realitively big family. I have 1 real (full-same mom and dad) brother, a half sister (same mom), a half brother (same dad), 2 step brothers (on my mom's side), and 2 step brothers (on my dads side). My parents are obviously divorced and have been since I was 2 years old. My dad passed away on June 29, 2002 at the age of 37 from a heart attack. We miss him a lot. My brother Ben, who is 23, is an Airman First Class (A1C) in the United States Air Force. He has been enlisted since October 16, 2006 and is a Mental Health Service Apprentice. He is stationed at Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska loves it. My sister Kaelyn (K-Lynn) is 15 and is a freshman in High School. The rest are too many to name and I don't live with them or see them too often, so they won't be in my blogs very much.
It's getting close to Christmas and I am really excited. Last week I wasn't so excited because my mom and grandma failed to tell me until almost last minute that my brother wasn't going to be coming home for Christmas. My brother and I are very close and have been through a lot together, so of course this made me upset and sad. I got to thinking that I couldn't spend Christmas, nor could I let him spend Christmas alone. Offutt is about a 10 hour drive from where we live. We live in Northeast Wisconsin. So...the wheels in my head started turning and I started planning out how it would work (like every child does). I am the type of person that plans it all out first, that way when I ask my grandparents and my mom to help me pay for the trip it's hard for them to say no. I asked for a plane ticket to Omaha as part of my Christmas present. So I looked into airline fares and got some prices, planned out when I would leave and when I would come back, talked to my brother, and then all I had to do was talk to the grandparents and see if they would help me out. I went over to my grandparents house and told them what I wanted to do and asked if that could be my Christmas present and they happily agreed. So...I'M GOING TO OFFUTT FOR CHRISTMAS!!!
Today I have/had to pack all my things for my trip. I am leaving tomorrow and I am coming back late on Christmas day. I won't be back until about midnight. That's fine with me because I will be spending Christmas with my brother.
I swear that I have one of the weirdest families ever. My mom is making no-bake cookies for my brother because they are his favorite and I have to take them in my suit case. If that isn't bad enough...my grandma is making me taking polish sausage and sauerkraut!!! Do they not realize how much of a freak I'm going to look like with sausage and sauerkraut in my suitcase. I can just imagine the look on the airport personnel's faces when they see food in my luggage. I'm sure I'm not the first and won't be the last, but that's not the point. Not only do I have to bring our Christmas meal with me, I have to bring all of his presents. Ok...when I say all it makes it sound like there are a hundred, and there aren't that many. There are a lot of small things like giftcards and such... but I still have to bring them all.
I told Ben that when I get there tomorrow at about midnight, the first thing we are doing is going to Wal-Mart to get him a little spiral tree. We are still getting him a tree, but it might have to wait until Friday afternoon. He has a room inspection sometime on Friday and we don't want him to get marked down for a cluttered room.
Today and tomorrow are going to be really busy...yet I'm taking the time to start a blog. How weird! So...instead of actually doing something about it and getting off the computer, I will sit here and complain about how busy it's going to be. Nice Sable, really nice! Lol. Yesterday my aunt asked me if I would make a fleece blanket for my uncle. It's one of the ones that you take 2 pieces of fleece material and tie them together. I have made a few before and they aren't hard. They just take some time to do. Especially when your hands cramp up. I agreed to do it and she even offered me some money for the little job. So I started it last night and got one of the ends done. I have to go over to my grandma's and finish it today.
I have been spending quite a bit of time with my grandma in the past week because she just found out that after 46 years of marriage, my grandpa filed for divorce with no warning. He left her a note on the counter saying that filed for divorce and she was not to contact him. Her whole world came crashing down and it's hard for her as it would be for anyone. We (my family and I) want someone to be with her as much as possible so she isn't lonely. She likes the company and this way we can make sure she is taking care of herself. She is 64 years old and feels like this is the end of her life. She doesn't want to be alone 'til she dies and I don't blame her. She doesn't really have an appetite, but I make sure she eats anyways so she isn't hungry.
After I make the blanket, I have to go to lunch with my mom and grandma. Then I will probably spend some more time with grandma. Tomorrow I have to work and then I am off to Offutt.
Well, I think that's enough blogging for the first day. I am new at the whole blogging thing, so I hope this isn't too boring for anyone who might read this.
T-1 day 'til Nebraska!

WOW! Your family is something!!
So sorry to hear about your grandparents - I can NOT imagine how your grandmother must feel. I believe things happen for a reason but this... I just don't know what that would be.
So glad I inspired you to blog!! I promise you'll enjoy having it - it's a great way to vent and you end up meeting a lot of people.
Thanks for letting me know your blog is here. I'll be back to check on you often!
Have fun with your brother - give him a hug from an AF Mom in Maine!
Hallie
